The Dutch Red Chili was probably bred in Indonesia from Cayennes, and went from there to the Netherlands. Today it is one of the most frequently sold chili types in Central Europe. The plants are bushy and grow up to between 70 and 100 cm in height. The Chilies resemble Cayennes, and ripen from green to a full red, but are somewhat fleshier and sweeter in flavour. Due to their pleasant mild spiciness, they are suitable for salads as well as cooking, pickling, grilling and drying.
